It is very easy when watching someone flying a model plane to believe it is very easy.  I can guarantee you it is not.  However, it is not that difficult either but it does take time and dedication.

At Don Valley Model Flying Club you will get some of the best training around.

You will probably start on a "Buddy Box".  This is a system where two transmitters are coupled together with a special cable.  You have one set and the trainer has the other.  He will take off for you and set the trim on the aircraft before handing over to you.  This is done at the flick of a switch.  If you get into problems he can switch back and take control.  It is that easy.

From there you take full control but the instructor stands with you.  He may still take off and land but the rest is yours.  If you get into difficulties hand the transmitter to him, fast!

You will practice landing approaches and gain confidence in handling the aircraft.  Taking off will probably come next but your instructor will decide when the time is right.  This personal approach is very friendly and most trainees progress quickly.

With experience, landing will come and very soon you will be going solo.  At the club this decision is in the hands of the instructors.  The quickest anyone has learnt is 3 weeks, but it depends on the trainee.

From there you can take your "A" Certificate.  This is a test devised by the BMFA and shows you are competent in flying.  Our instructors are approved to conduct this test.

This can be followed by the BMFA "B" Certificate.  This test includes some aerobatics and other more precise flying and shows how competent you have become.  Again our instructors are approved to conduct this test.

Learning to fly with Don Valley Model Flying Club is a very enjoyable experience for all age groups.  We have many youngsters coming through as well as older trainees re-discovering their youth.

Come and have a try, you may get hooked!
